How to Choose a Holiday Outfit

The holiday season is upon us and what to wear is a dilemma for all of us. Must we purchase something new, how dressy is too dressy and when are we being too casual. It is best to check with your hostess to see what is the dress code so you are not embarrassed by the wrong decision. It is always best to be a little understated then to be way over dressed. You want to be comfortable in what you wear and most of all feel good about the way you look. Nothing will make for a terrible evening like wearing an outfit you do not feel good about.

First, when in doubt black is always good. That little black dress no matter how old it is as long as you accessorize it properly is a winner. A nice pair of tailored black pants with a sweater goes a long way. An evening skirt with a holiday top put you in the holiday mood. Just remember if you choose black make sure you choose holiday accessories that will brighten your outfit and not make you look like you are going to a funeral.

A second option is red, what would the holiday season be without the color red. There are many different shades of red and I am sure there is one that will work well with whatever your coloring is. A basic red dress made of some soft flowing fabric will give you a boost of holiday spirits. If you don’t want to wear a dress a lovely cashmere sweater in red is a wonderful holiday addition. If sweaters aren’t your thing a lovely red satin blouse under a black velvet blazer is both festive and elegant.

Another option is glitter, this year shine is in and there are so many wonderful items of clothing that have that metallic feel. There are so many metals to choose from, gold, silver, bronze copper and pewter. There is certainly something for everyone. One of these metallic looks are available no matter what your skin tone is. You can choose from an entire outfit of shine or just choose from a scarf or a pair of shoes. Nothing will brighten up a holiday party more than you in a little shine.

Still another choice is items that are either entirely made of or just trimmed with faux fur. It doesn’t matter if you live in the frigid north or the tropics a garment trimmed with fur says it is the holidays and time to party. Fake fur items are available at all different price points today. Since it is no longer politically correct to wear real fur get on the fake fur bandwagon this year.

Lastly, if you do not have a new outfit for this holiday season there are numerous ways to recycle last years favorite and no one will be any the wiser. You can use lace, sequins and faux stones as a trim on an old dress. Take your everyday jeans and throw on an old sweater that you have embellished and you are ready to go. Sparkly jewelry makes any Blah outfit bright. But most of all the most important thing you choose to wear to a holiday party is your attitude If you go to have a great time you will.
